HAPPY ENDINGS!
Working with a rescue puts each volunteer on an emotional roller coaster. Absolutely the "highest" and most rewarding moments come from finding a responsible, loving home for a special rescued Golden. These happy endings should be shared and celebrated.
Reddi
Reddi's Mom sends the
following update:
"Just wanted
to let you know that our 3 1/2 hr ride home with Reddi was uneventful
and he settled in beautifully! He is such a lovable boy."
Thanks for sharing
him!

Sophie
Sophie's family sent the following
update:
"She is an unbelievable dog.
Well trained, perfect leash behavior, barks only appropriately,
responds to commands, loves everyone she meets, especially children
and other dogs. The lump you pointed out to us when we picked
her up was just a shot reaction that went away. She gets walks
every day and I take her to the office every weekday. In fact
she goes to the garage door before I do in the morning, just so
I won't forget her. My congregation has adopted her too. Monday
she will have a small skin cyst removed and her nails trimmed.
She's a very happy dog, and we are very happy owners. I can't
believe anyone ever gave her up, but I'm very glad they did. "
Thanks again!

Zeus (right) with his Family
Zeus' Dad sends the
following update:
"Zeus is doing great! It only took about 20 minutes for him to learn his place in the pecking order! He appears to be enjoying the environment and loves the girls."boys"
playing on the floor. You can get a sense from the photo that
Max enjoys his fair share of wrestling with the family!"

Olivia, Riley & Eric
Riley, 1 year later (an
update from his family):
"What a difference
a year makes
August 12, 2007 Riley
was afraid of the world. So scared, he had a hard time coming out
to meet us.
August 12, 2008 Riley was playing with his hound dog friend in our
neighborhood. Happy as can be.
We could not have been happier to find Riley at your rescue. He
has been an amazing addtion to our family and is the best dog I
know. He runs up to every one when we go on walks looking for loves.
He is always the center of attention, and always listens to us when
we ask him to do something. He is a cuddlebug and a lap dog (although
as you can see in the picture, it takes two laps to acomodate him)
Thank you again for saving Riley and giving Olivia and I the opportunity
to adopt him."

Sophie
Sophie's Mom sent us a the following
note:
"I just wanted to let you
know how well Sophie is doing. She is wonderfully well mannered
and incredibly affectionate. She is a true Velcro dog- she follows
me into every room! I'm having some difficulty getting her to
eat... she won't eat if I start to leave the room- she has to
be near me. I take her for walks twice a day and she is in heaven!
She goes with my brothers dog and we walk together. Everyone comments
on how beautiful she is and how nice. She has not quite learned
how to play with toys yet though- I've tried the squeaker toy,
a kong filled with peanut butter and tennis balls, but Ithink
shed rather just sit by my side by the off chance that I'll pet
her! She seems very happy though!
I just
wanted to thank you again for everything you do! She is absolutely
wonderful and deserved a good family that loves her- even though
her first family didnt work out. You have a heart of gold!"
Sincerely,
- Lauren

PS- I've attached some pictures of the Goofball- she cant stop smiling!

Steve
Steve's family sent us
the following update:
"Life with Steve
is great! He is the neighborhood's favorite dog as he is gentle
even with the littlest kids. He likes to play hard though - and
actually broke a toe running in the woods! The vet took extra special
care of him though, notice the heart on his cast in the attached
picture. He was so sad to not be able to play in the woods though
for nearly a month.
He loves waking the
kids up in the morning and watching squirrels, deer and birds from
the deck during the day. I continue to work from home and he sits
next to me on his ottman to keep me company. He also continues to
LOVE being in the car! He will ride with me anywhere - even if it
is just to the grocery store!
Steve has many nicknames.....
McFly (I have no idea why), Stinky (before a bath), Fluffy (after
a bath). He loves peanut butter - but is not allowed rawhides any
more as he is a "gulper" which was really scary to figure
out. He has also been camping a bunch of times and loves being in
the tent with the whole family.
We can't imagine our
lives without Steve. He is such a source of joy for us! Thank you
again for the work that you do and for bringing him into our family!"

Gertie & Webster
Wenster's family sent out a note:
"...We got a friend for Gertie
this weekend. His name is Webster and he's a Golden Retriever
that we got from Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue. He's about
two years old and is a very handsome dog (as you can see from
the ... pictures). Gertie was a little jealous at first, but she
quickly discovered that he was a great playmate and they've been
romping through the house ever since. The cats have yet to get
to know him!"

Duke & Maxx
Maxx and Duke's family
sent us the following update:
"Maxx is recovering
nicely from ACL surgery that was performed about 10 days ago.
He'll be back to his normal, 'I MUST investigate EVERYTHING' self
soon. Duke continues to delight us all with his funny facial expressions
and interaction with Maxx. This past holiday season was a big
one for us all as Duke & Maxx met the rest of our family for the
first time. Our grown children (3) were all home for the holidays
and immediately fell in love with "the boys". Beth and I remind
ourselves almost daily, how glad we are that the two wonderful
pets came into our lives...
A couple of months
ago Maxx won a blue ribbon at a Harrisonburg Pet Show where he
was the oldest participant in the "Rescue Dog Pet Parade"
He was quite pleased. Duke won over the hearts of many young girls,
being the heart-thob that he is."

Grayson
Grayson's Dad sent us the following
update:
"Just wanted to let you know
that everything is going great with Grayson. He definately has
some security issues- he is afraid of any enclosed area and as
you mentioned- terrified of stairs. But he is settling down more
everyday and becoming comfortable with his new home and learning
to trust us. Grayson is playing very well with our puppy and is
completely deferential to her. She takes his bone away from him
and pushes him away from his food- and Grayson just considers
it play.
I hope all is well with you
and thanks again for allowing us to adopt Grayson."

Carson
Carson's Dad sent us these
wonderful photos with an update:
"We spent last
weekend with Carson in New Hampshire wherein we stayed in a cabin
on the Pemigewasett River. Carson enjoyed the outdoors and walking
along the trails and river edge. Please find the attached photographs
of Carson along with our Beagle Heidi. He seems to be doing well
and adjusting to his new home. We will send more photographs soon.
"
Take care.

Note from
Almost Heaven: Carson's new "Mom and Dad" have experience working
and living with blind dogs. We are so happy that they chose Carson
to be one of their "special" furkids. He looks so happy with his
new family. :)

Steve aka Yota
Steve's family wrote with an
update: "Where to begin????!!! First - thanks so much
for finding Steve for us - he is a funny, loving dog! ...
We have been taking lots of walks exploring the area (amazing
what you find in your own neighborhood when a dog is guiding!).
He has made a few friends too (Cracker, Pearl, Merlot)...
He had his first bath (which he was not thrilled about but behaved
just fine) and his first venture into the C&O canal (still
on leash in the shallow end)."
Thanks again!
