- Common Grass a Danger to Your Pet?
and Adoptions
|
Foxtail is a common annual grass usually
considered a weed, not to be confused with the standard flower
variety. The grassy weed-type version is very dangerous to pets
with access to it, not only your canine companion. Find out how
to identify Foxtail and the dangers to pets by reading the article
"Foxtail
Grass Dangerous to Dogs" by Marilyn Pokorney.
Tess, Thomas and Chandler have been adopted.

- Does Your Canine Companion Lack Social
Skills?
|
Laura Costas of One-on-One Dog Training will
be presenting this casual and informational seminar that will "explore
what it really means to have a well socialized dog."
"Everyone knows that dogs are
social animals that adapt wonderfully well to human society. But
sometimes our expectations don't quite match reality, and our
canine friends act out with puzzling behaviors that seem inappropriate
to us. Even friendly, well-adjusted dogs need strong leadership
to be good citizens. We'll talk about the ways that human social
structure is compatible with--and where it collides with--your
dog's social inclinations. We'll look briefly into aggression
and fearfulness, and we'll talk a lot about where the boundaries
should be in every interaction involving a dog. Come make friends!"

is simpleencourage businesses to devote one special day

- Are retractable leashes dangerous?
|
"All Marion Earley wanted to do
was get her 82-pound golden retriever, Stone, into the car. But
the dog bolted, and the retractable leash Earley was using wrapped
around her finger and amputated the tip of it." ... Read
about the injuries cauased by retractable leashes in the article
Danger
on the leash by Rocky Scott, Democrat Staff Writer [Tallahassee
Democrat, Sun, May. 08, 2005].
Does this mean retractable leashes should
be banned? In the article Danger
on the leash an employee of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission's clearinghouse is reported to have said "a
search for dog leash injuries reported over the past four years
produced about 35 documented cases of injuries caused by retractable
leashes." Certainly this information should be compared
to the number of retractable leashes sold in the United States.
Perhaps it is a decision that should not be taken without forethought.
However, it should ultimately be the consumer's choice on the
type of leash that meets his/her needs.
flexi
leash, a major manufacturer of the retractable leash, provides
a list of Safety
Precautions and Directions that should be reviewed prior to
considering the use of a retractable leash.

- Adoption & New Resident
|
Bullet has been adopted.
Kenny aka Kenyon has recently become a permanent
resident at Almost Heaven's Sanctuary.
Kenny has had some rough handling somewhere along the way, and
he has "quirks" that are easily dealt with here, but make him
unadoptable to the average family. For that reason, we have accepted
him as a permanent resident, and a member of our Almost Heaven
family.
Eddie has been adopted.
Titan, Thome, Aspen have been adopted.
Snickers has been adopted.

- Keeping Your Pet Forever?
|
"As Americans' emotional bond with their
animals continues to deepen, so does the desire to stay connected
to them even after they have passed. But for some, that tasteful
cremation urn on the fireplace mantle just doesn't cut it. So
they turn to companies such as Mansfield's Pet Preservation Specialist"...Read
