"Kerry"
by Bev. Killeen

The moment that I saw her it was love at first sight,
The look in her eyes made the decision seem right.
Her AKC registration was simple and plain,
In honor of my father’s birthplace, “KERRY” was her name.

A Canine Good Citizen who was as “Good as Gold”,
A Pet Therapy Dog who serviced the young and the old.
Through the years she showed true to the breed,
With her gentleness and love with every good deed.

To everyone who knew her, this is what I say,
Remember my “Miss Kerry” for her gentle loving way.
The eyes of the pup that stole my heart,
Still stays in my soul never to depart

A Dog's Bill of Rights
        ~ Author Unknown

1. I have the right to give and receive unconditional love.

2. I have the right to a life that is beyond mere survival.

3. I have the right to be trained so that I do not become the prisoner of
my misbehavior.

4. I have the right to adequate food and medical care.

5. I have the right to fresh air and green grass.

6. I have the right to socialize with people and dogs outside my own
family.

7. I have the right to special time with my people.

8. I have the right to be bred responsibly, if at all.

9. I have the right to be foolish and silly, and to make my person laugh.

10. I have the right to earn my person's trust and to be trusted in return.

11. I have the right to be forgiven.

12. I have the right to die with dignity.

13. I have the right to be remembered well.

HE'S JUST MY DOG
        ~ Author Unknown

He's just my dog.
He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds;
my other ears that hear above the winds.
He has told me more than a thousand times over that I am his reason for being -- by the way he rests against my leg,
by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile,
by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him.
(I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me).

When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive.
When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile.
When I am happy, he is joy unbounded.
When I am a fool, he ignores it.
When I succeed, he brags.

Without him, I am only another person.
With him, I am all powerful.
He has taught me the meaning of devotion is loyalty itself.
With him, I know the secret comfort and a private peace.
He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant.
His head on my knee can heal my human hurts.
His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things.
He has promised to wait for me ... whenever ... wherever ...
in case I need him, and I expect I will, as I always have.

Who is he? -- He's just --MY DOG!

Home at Last
by John Quealy

The trees were blowing in the gentle breeze.
The sun was shining thru the leaves on the trees.
The meadows are green and the grass grows tall
Off in the distance you can see a waterfall.
Over the falls down through the creek
The water flows gently as a rabbit sneaks a peek.
Far up above in the deep blue sky
The birds soar high as they fly by.
The animals play at the bridge by the waterfall,
Chasing each other and just having a ball.
They play all day from morning to night.
There's no more rain, just warm sunlight.
Off in the distance the trumpets would blow.
All would look up and notice a bright glow.
The harps would play and the angels would sing
Another pet has come home, who had earned his wings.

Poem for Dog Lovers
by Ginger Patton

Hello. I've been expecting you for quite some
time.
Here, come sit beside us for awhile .
and let me tell you about this old friend of mine.
She might look tattered or maybe old
But I won't say goodbye until you've been told.
She had the brightest eyes I had ever seen,
And wore a beautiful fur coat that would out
shine a queen .
She was never prissy but walked with an aire ......
And oh so polite, you could take her most
anywhere.
She could run like the wind and could catch
anything she chased
But she protected and sat with me when I had
problems to face.
You could not find a friend nearly so dear.
Because no matter the trouble she always stayed
near...
She has never asked for much from me;
Just to love and respect her and I think you'll
agree .
To give her a good meal plus a nice warm bed is
not much to ask ;
When she has given me all her love and to her this
was no task.
Now I understand you have a schedule to keep.
But I have a small favor before she nods off to
sleep.
Please fold your wings around her and let her feel
young while in no pain ;
Dear Guardian Angel of Pets ,
please keep her safe and happy until I see her
again.

Room for one More Dog
        ~ Author Unknown

I see by his coat he must be a stray,
the untidy look gives him away.
He's lost his will and is so thin
hasn't eaten, since God knows when.
I know as I coax him through the door,
There's always room for one more.
The other night in the freezing rain,
That little female came again.
Matted and soaked crying in need,
lost and alone with babies to feed.
Her pleading eyes I couldn't ignore,
There's always room for one more.
There's a new face on the docks today,
hungry but clean to our dismay,
I stroked her head Her body ripples
when she got up I saw she was crippled
she started to go, but fell on the floor.
There's always room for one more.
There's the poor doggy standing in the rain,
I've tried to entice him time and again.
One ears lopsided the other's been torn,
Blind in one eye lost and forlorn.
He's coming now, so I'll open the door.
There's always room for one more.
These stories are true, as I've said before,
There's always room for one more.
