Almost Heaven has "in memorial" or
"in honor" cards available to anyone who makes a donation
and would like notification sent to someone. These are not
fancy, but they are personalized as we print them individually
for each person. All we need from the donor is the wording
you would like on your card, and the name and address to
send it to. In addition to the card, your memorial will
also be posted on our donors webpage, and if you wish to
sponsor a dog in memorial or in honor of someone, we will
post that information along with your name next to the animal
you sponsor. Remember - these gifts can be for a birthday,
anniversary, graduation - just about anything. And, they
would be so appreciated here.
The inside of the card can be modified
to fit any occasion and individual situations. You can order
through PayPal using the "donation" button below
or mail request to Almost Heaven Golden Retriever Rescue,

Almost heaven is always being called upon to help Golden and
Golden Mixes that include many Seniors and Special Needs dogs.
We seem to always be
swamped with requests, and have been able to accomodate
all requests for help for the purebreds, and 99% of the
requests for help for our Golden Mix Orphans. In order to
assist more, our alternative is to board some these of dogs
(some are already in boarding) until an adoption or foster
home is available. Boarding is costly and funding may limit
the number of dogs we can help. These are dogs whose owners
are sick, have passed away, have had life changing events
happen, or some have simply been dumped and left to die
through no fault of their own.
If you would like to help save a life ... and can afford
to assist with boarding expenses ... we (and the furkids) would be most
appreciative of your help! The cost to board ONE dog for a week is $ 35.00 - $70.00, depending on
the facility available to us. Presently, we estimate that each new dog we commit to taking in
may need to board for at least 2 weeks. We gratefully accept any financial assistance offered,
and if you think you are cut out to be a "foster parent", please contact us - we'd love to work
with you.

Radio:
Radio was born blind, and with a stubby little crooked
tail. His owner held him until he was 13 weeks old,
then sent him to us. He is one of the sweetest puppies
on this earth.
Within 2 days, it
was obvious that something was wrong with Radio.
He was still a boundless ball of energy, but he
was slow to eat and his stools were not "normal".
Last Sunday night, he refused his dinner until very
late. Monday, he was taken to our veterinarian's
hospital - at 6 am - and left for observation and
to treat his loss of appetite. Monday evening, he
took a downward turn, that has not stopped. He has
lapsed into what the doctor's think is now severe
parvovirus - and he is fighting for his life. We
have no idea how or where he contracted it - - -
or if it is secondary to an unknown medical condition.
We do know, he was exposed and came to us after
exposure.
Keep Radio in your
thoughts for a full recovery. If you have a few
dollars to spare, he sure could use them now. We
will not stop fighting for this puppy's life
...
UPDATE: our boy,
Radio, is now eating special food and doing well
with it. He has literally come back from the clutches
of death - - - - - Radio was released from the hospital
today and is now living in his foster home!

Brody
aka Aiken is approx. 8 - 10 years old (probably
closer to 10) and found himself at a high kill shelter
in the deep south. This poor dear soul was so sick
with erhlichia (a tick borne disease) that his days
were numbered without treatment. Lana Winter and
ShoreHeart
Golden Retriever Rescue sponsored Brody's medical
care, and we agreed to take him under our wing once
he was well enough. That time is around the corner
- and as you can see from his picture, this boy
is used to being a house dog, his current foster
Mom says he is alert, spunky, playful, housebroken,
and easy to live with. She wishes she could keep
him, but if she wants to keep helping others on
their way to safety, cannot.
Brody may or may
not have some lingering heart weakness from the
erhlichia and he is definitely a Senior boy. We
would like to see him in a loving home for the remainder
of his life.

Ms. Bettie may have
a tad of Golden Retriever in her - but we see more
Lab and Hound. However, she has a wonderful personality,
and a sad history - and we would hate to see her
sad life end in a shelter. Bettie was a stray and
as you can see from her picture, she suffered an
eye injury that needs treatment (maybe removal)
and also has an old injury to one of her hips (possible
dislocation?). She still gets around fine, but she
would definitely benefit from medical care and a
LOT of TLC. The shelter says she gets along with
all the other animals there, including kitties,
and appears to be housebroken.
We'd love to help
Bettie get the medical treatment she needs and to
be able to live out her life in a normal, loving
home (or a foster home).
Update Dec. 31:
Bettie has had her surgery and is back home recuperating.
She was thoroughly
checked out by our vet, and her eye was repaired
(removed, cleaned, and stitched shut). The eye should
give her no further trouble. She has been spayed,
heartworm checked, and fully vaccinated. Her dislocated
hip was x-rayed. The hip is indeed out of socket,
but the injury is so old, that there is no way to
repair it -- except to cut off the tip of the hip
bone and let the body calcify and make it's own
"socket". Our vet did not recommend doing that at
this time - - he thought she was still getting around
fine on her own. Although she "may" need the surgery
in the future, he didn't feel it was warranted at
this time.
She seems to feel
relatively good after her ordeal, and will soon
be looking for her forever home. Bettie is a VERY
sweet, easy going girl that has everyone she meets
falling in love with her. Don't miss your chance
to include her in your family - - - - - send in
your adoption application today.
